Pros

Amazon (including AWS) shares their 16 leadership principles across all employees and they hire people based on their fit to these 16 LPs. When I started working here, I have seen these LPs are indeed visible at their day-to-day work and other mid/long term discussion and planning. So if you read those and find you like them, this is the place you should belong. As for AWS, there are various roles in many different industries and specific technologies. So you can find what would the best fit for your expectation and it is also true that you can change your role over time as long as you are self-managing your own career in proactive manner. I also find people are helping with each other willingly and proactively. So if you are in need of some help and support, there are many people available to offer their help. Customer Obsession is one of the 16 LPs makes people behave that way and Earn Trust with each other. Nonetheless to say, the company is growing a lot and there always are new things become available and innovated. So you never get bored.

Cons

If you're not the type of person who wants new challenge, learning and be curious, this is a wrong place. If you don't feel excited reading their leadership principles (16LPs), you will not be qualified or you will not enjoy working here. There are a lot of learning contents and training courses available as well as many resources to help you develop yourself as long as you are self-motivated and curious in learning. Otherwise, you might get lost and unlikely you find the work here fun.

Strong engineering culture, competitive pay, great learning opportunities, and excellent internal mobility across teams.

Cons

Work-life balance can be tough, on-call rotations are demanding, and the pace is fast with high expectations.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
