Pros
I’m coming up on two years with the company now and I’m really thankful I work here. I had an unlucky year and ended up with back to back personal crises. No one batted an eye at my taking time away to take care of my family. I’ve worked at companies who claim they treat their employees as human beings until they actually need something and then suddenly you become very expendable. It was really lovely to see that Akamai not only says they support the staff but they back it up with action. Also, these are probably the best benefits I’ve had since I worked for a biotech company.
Cons
There aren’t many, which I don’t think I’ve ever said before about a company. If I had to pick one it’s that there’s a tendency to build tools in house instead of using a publicly available tool. I recognize that it’s because some of the projects in the company started before any of those tools ever did but it makes the onboarding process lengthy as there are a lot of tools here that don’t exist anywhere else.
