    Pros

Great people, values, and opportunity for young people

    Cons

I cant think of anything right now

    Advice to Management

Please make it mandatory for managers to discuss if the employees will get stock option or not so we don't just wonder.

I worked at EllisDon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, very friendly and interactive, good working conditions and health and safety policy. Good wages and human resource management.

    Cons

Not many cons to speak of, generally good experience. Only cons would be inevitable conflicts during interactions between workers in different trades and between subcontractors.

    Advice to Management

A bit of attention should be payed to the management of the interaction between subtrades and employees to ensure no lapses in communication or avoidable conflict.

    Pros

Excellent benefit packages. Nothing more to say. I had to write more words to be able to match the minimum amount of words required to answer this question.

    Cons

Sick and toxic work environment full of jealousy and backstabbing.
They are complete hypocrites. The values that they talk/preach about and advertise on their website are a complete joke as they are only Good at Marketing themselves but when you enter their world you will discover that they have No Respect , No Trust, No Tolerance, and there is No such thing as Team Work. You will find yourself on your own dealing with arrogant, unprofessional, and two faced upper management team including the EA.
There is a lot of open favoritism going on in the company and pointing fingers which creates an unhealthy and unprofessional workplace. They have a high turn over not only in the commercial department but in the industrial department as well.
I would say Run Away and do not waste your talents, experience, time, and energy.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management listens only to its close circle which are like an old boys club who are arrogant and unprofessional. Upper management should be more wise in regards to choosing their successors, their closer team, and their EAs. Also upper management and it's team lacks coaching and mentoring skills for their employees which is considered a Big Joke considering the fact that the CEO and president of EllsiDon holds a live online presentation with EllisDon employees across Canada to talk about the importance of performance reviews and what aspects or facts weighs in these performance reviews. When there is lack of coaching, lack of communication, lack of feedback, and lack of trust, these type of presentations become fake and like a talk show.

I have been working at EllisDon (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - exposure to interesting high profile jobs where you are always learning
    - chance to work with some of the industries higher end trades
    - flexible with vacation
    - Lots of room to move up within the company
    - Upper management is very transparent with the companies goals and objectives, including financials

    Cons

    - Some long time employees are stuck in the old generation of contracting (ie not accepting of technology to aid the project, negative attitudes towards helping subcontractors)
    - easy to get lost in the shuffle if you don't speak up due to the size of the company
    - no real say in which project you get put onto if you're in the field. They don't take into account where you or others live to try and minimize travel time to work

    Advice to Management

Continue to be involved in the smaller levels of the company. Lots of young fresh employees are unsure of how to advance in the company

I have been working at EllisDon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-They pay well compared to other companies
    -Flexible with vacation time
    -Generally look after their employees
    -Safe place to work

    Cons

    -Unorganized at times
-Lack tools or material needed for tasks quite often

    Advice to Management

-Try being more proactive than reactive when coordinating a schedule (pulling workers from tasks over and over just wastes time and effort moving around)
-Employees don't like constantly having to scrounge for material or tools to do what they are asked
-The culture of sticking to schedule regardless of common sense frustrates employees and sub trades, it usually ends up with work being done over or being damaged and is a waste of time and money

    Pros

Flexible, and willing to promote within.
    3 weeks vacation to start.
Decent salary and benefits are great.
    Company holds team building events.

    Cons

Tough to get messages across to upper management.
Pay isn't as good compared to other companies.
Some of the long time superintendents aren't willing to teach newer ones.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the new employees rather then long term ones that may have become complacent.

I worked at EllisDon (More than a year)

    Pros

You can make great money in the right position.

    Cons

Generally my experience at EllisDon was poor.

They are an Ontario based company that belongs in Ontario. The company has a well deserved and dubious reputation in the west.

They don't pay their sub-trades on time which has affected their ability to conduct business. They like to comment about how much money they have in the bank. Not paying on time is major source of interest income.

They like to try to lure top talent from other companies with the promise of high pay, as was my case. If they approach you run, it will not end well. They are mostly trying to recruit you in order to glean information and contacts in order to send someone from Ontario to replace you.

The senior executive manage by authority as opposed to leadership qualities. They are contract managers and accountants and their mentality of bullying subtrades and employees, seems to be the normal course of business.

They have had several high profile projects end poorly with many companies that has affected their ability to do business. In turn they tend to attract management in Alberta with dubious reputations.

    Advice to Management

Do what you say you are going to do and be forthright.

I have been working at EllisDon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of great and hardworking coworkers. Everyone wants to do their best. The work is interesting and their is a 9-5 culture. They don't expect you to work insane hours (unless you're on a deadline).

    Cons

Lots of useless upper management. Many of them are scrambling to position themselves to take over for the current CEO, but it's easy to see that he's not going anywhere for the next 10-15 years. This means too much time is spent on office politics and not enough time is spent on making sure great work is getting done.
