With the big aspirations, there is a disconnect with reality in what it takes to achieve. This includes not having the right tools, peoples, process, etc. in place to deliver what has been sold and worse yet, overpromising on the new work/clients without learning from historical lessons.
Along with this, they run a skeleton crew with a ton of technical debt, so the production support needs are growing by the day and becoming more unreasonable. 50+ hour weeks are the bare minimum with 60+ hour weeks being the norm.
Promotion opportunities are rarely granted out of merit, but are done either out of fear of someone leaving or are woefully overdue.
