Pros

Your coworkers. You will bond quickly and tightly as you navigate an overwhelming and traumatic work environment together. The patients are actually lovely and well worth it. Many of them want to get better, and those who don't want to get better (yet) are still working their hardest. It is actually live-changing work.

Cons

Where to begin. Upper management is extremely incompetent, and middle management cannot do anything because their hands are tied. As a program director I advocated for my therapists again and again, but I can't actually make change because they're blocked at the higher levels. Financially, the company has been bleeding money for a long time and it shows in the way they don't pay our utility bills, in the way food shipments are delayed or we're told to only order specific items. Staffing is horrible. The therapists carry a huge caseload, the floor staff are overworked and usually only have 1-2 on each shift (one mental health counselor and one diet tech). And the best part is your job might not even be there tomorrow! Several facilities were closed on short notice and staff told they had 1 week to transition out. Or sometimes people will just get fired when they walk into to work! Speaking of which. I personally know of at least 4 people who were fired egregiously - one for a workplace harassment allegation that had no merit, one who was fired for too much overtime because she was picking up shifts no one else could work (!!!), one was promoted and then fired before their annual review so they wouldn't get a pay bump, one who was promised a switch to another location since she was moving and then at last minute they eliminated the job they already told her she had. HR is toxic as well and refuses to conduct exit interviews so that you can get answers to your questions. It is clear a lot of these decisions are made with the bottom line in mind. I know, it's a for profit company. But it's so blatantly obvious the greed that exists. Meanwhile, those at the very top are the equivalent of an old boy's club who only care about money. I'm sure if you speak to anyone at this company they will know who we're talking about. Thankfully they have a new CEO, but a lot of the Presidents and VPs did not rightfully earn their place, they just knew how to play the game right and say the right things.
