Terrible company

Pros

Low-stress environment with flexible hours. Most of the people working there are nice. You get a free remote starter if you are willing to use your car for testing the product.

Cons

This is a company with a toxic culture that cannot retain talent. Employee turnover is high and the only "senior" employees working here are brainwashed to think that this company is actually doing good. Good analytical skills and methodical approaches to solving problems are not appreciated here, instead, you must deliver quickly so the advice is to copy what the competition does. The priorities keep shifting around and no project is delivered on time. The size of the technical debt is simply absurd and no time is spent towards reducing it. The company is resistant to change and is stuck with old tools and practices. The core business of the company is becoming less and less relevant, but the company has no backup plan. The workspace is depressing as everyone was moved from two floors into the same floor and most people don't even have windows anymore. Severe lack of professionalism.

Pros

The majority of people in the company are very nice and polite. Sometimes the traffic to get there is ok. There are some really smart people here too. And I do not say this sarcastically: they were one of the better companies I worked for that notifying people when they were laid off. They at least treated them like humans.

Cons

The perks are not very good at all. Pay is not good, and they misrepresent vacation time when they offer you the contract. They promised three weeks of vacation, but they force you to use three of days during a shutdown in summer (which was not specified on the contract). Next year will be four days. Management does not care about the employees at the Lachine office, even though most of the work is done there. We have a building with two floors, but they squeezed us all into the first floor so we can work more ‘efficiently’. Now most people work in rooms with no windows eight hours per day. We have only two meeting rooms now which are always used. They will do an “anonymous survey” about it, say everyone likes it, but good luck finding someone who actually does. Project management does not exist. No clear definition of what we are supposed to be doing, but they already know when they want it by. Expect your work to change on a daily basis. There is no point to argue about this either, since management don’t care about feedback. The company is run using a very old mentality. There are no processes, it is not modern in any way, and it will not change. Sexist and racist jokes are normal and tolerated in the company. Last, the company is really the definition of mediocrity. If you want to try to make some things better, forget it, that costs too much or that takes too much time. They want to do everything the way they always done it for years, never make change to improve productivity or cut out redundancy. If this means you have to work overtime, too bad, that's the way it is. Essentially, prepare to have your skills wasted, because you will not improve or learn anything new here. The only reason I could see someone wanting to work here is that they want to retire soon and don’t care about the future. I don't think this company will exist in 5 years.

Longer term investment in new products required. Weak engineering.

Pros

The company is aggressive and will compete hard to gain share and genuinely cares about its customers. Previously had innovative products. Largest player in remote start security category.

Cons

Quickly shrinking market . Lots of executive turn over. Engineering project development time lines never met. Product development underfunded. Ownership priority is to flip the business every few years which has undermined longer term plan implementation decisions required to fix the business. Unrealistic sales targets due to inability to accept competitive landscape. 1-2 years behind competition in new product development. Not thinking globally regarding markets.
