Turnover is very high. Design assistants are expected to take on a lot of responsibilities yet don't get paid adequately. They're expected to catch on quickly with inadequate training. They're constantly told that they're not expected to know everything all at once. However, that's not how it's portrayed. Some design project managers are very sweet and helpful while others are extremely toxic, communicate poorly, and constantly gaslight other design assistants about things that were not explained to them or communicated clearly. Constant micromanaging by tracking time and hours.
