Pros

New strategy is clear and concise. Small team works well despite being a fully remote org. Pay and benefits are comparable with similar orgs.

Cons

Small team means wearing a lot of hats and sometimes doing things that are outside your job.

Pros

Has all the great things about working for a startup like: adopting new technology and ways of work, fast moving, entrepreneurial values, low bureaucracy. But it's a 15-year-old organization which means it's stable and well-funded unlike most startups. The leaders put a lot of trust and freedom in the team to get the work done on our own terms and we have a lot of flexibility. Solid pay, perks and benefits. It's super cool to work with colleagues all over the world and travel a few times a year. The people involved in Creative Commons, both as staff and as volunteers/members are so amazing and inspiring to work with.

Cons

Sometimes hard to be a remote worker - this is my first remote job and I am still adjusting. It takes a long time to feel like part of the team. The downside of low bureaucracy/flat-ish structure is that a lot of us (even Directors) can get mired in admin-type tasks, which puts time for strategy and big picture thinking on the back burner. And in the non-profit world, there is always more to do than you can accomplish in a day, which can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Pros

The whole organization is remote, there's no head office. Working from home is a wonderful perk. The org's mission has never been clearer. The entire staff are dedicated and passionate. You can't help but feel motivated by your colleagues. There's a good amount of autonomy around different projects. The org gets together twice a year in a different city (fun travel!) and the annual Global Summit (more travel!) brings together the community in a really smart and inspiring event.

Cons

Not seeing your colleagues in person every day can make it hard to get to know them well.
