Pros

A positive aspect of this place is the opportunity to observe and learn from the CEO's tactics for scamming investors. In terms of engineering, it offers valuable learning experiences in the initial months, but afterward, there's a tendency for individuals to fool others in the tech department, except for the CTO who doesn't care about tech, and the Engineering Manager lacks a comprehensive understanding of the work that needs to be done. If you happen to be Telugu and are hired, it's an added job security as both the Recruiter Head and one of the Engineering Managers are Telugu. Additionally, the Head HR serves as a prime example of how to navigate being a puppet. Female employees, particularly those in sales or marketing, enjoy various perks including the opportunity to visit the CEO's home office. As for other perks, there's occasional access to unlimited beer, though this isn't guaranteed due to recent cost-cutting measures that led to the termination of around 30 employees, including myself.

Cons

In terms of drawbacks, there are few if you're solely focused on work, but I'll mention some key ones. Work Pressure: The Engineering Manager's lack of proficiency in handling tasks, such as knowingly deleting Kafka credentials before removing them from the code, results in daily sitting beside you for pressuring to complete the work. Working Hours: Management expects employees to work roughly 20 hours a day, with the CEO even anticipating responses at 4 AM, though pager calls can be ignored as anyways Engineering Manager will sit beside the very next day. Management: There's a noticeable lack of concern for employees, with the CEO exemplifying micromanagement as the head of management. HR Department: HR appears to lack autonomy and direction, merely echoing the CEO's directives. They frequently alter holiday schedules last minute and seem ill-prepared, even during exit interviews she doesn't know what excuses to be made. Salary: The CEO and CTO often find ways to deduct salaries, whether through adjusting work-from-office days or approved holidays. However, employees from prestigious institutions like BITS or IITR receive substantial compensation. Work Culture: Racism and sexism are pervasive, with the CEO displaying preference for white employees. Seniors are unhelpful in work-related matters. A noteworthy "pro" within these drawbacks is that if you're inclined to be a CEO's puppet, you may find satisfaction in this environment, a sentiment shared by the CTO.

Broken company

Pros

Nothing much except joined by mistake.

Cons

The company is all over the place. They hire people without a clear plan, then let them go for reasons that don’t make sense. How can you judge someone’s performance in 1-2 months? Founders treat employees like slaves and just keep yelling for day to day problems and finally remove them as performance issues. The company is in trouble. Every six months they try something new, but it never works out. Their original business is shutting down and company is in pivot phase. Please think 100 times before joining this company. You will get fired in 2-3 months due to performance reasons and even if you survive will get fired in year end cycle.

Pros

None, Zero, Zilch, Nada, Nothing.

Cons

The process: Hire folks in a bunch. You think the company is growing rapidly so that might be the reason why they're hiring so many folks. You start working on an engagement, put hours and weeks into it and then its shelved all of a sudden and then you're ousted too citing performance issues. That's how this Kirana Store works. The Company Owner has zero aptitude and knowledge about scaling up an organization. He takes decisions driven by impulse instead of decisions based on logic and reasoning. To create an org like Contlo, just have people in Senior Management who are Individual Contributors at best. You'll have an impulse driven, zero-processes oriented organization like this one. Well. I don't know if it can be continued to call "Contlo" in the coming weeks/ months as they are pivoting towards calling everything as powered by "SuperAGI" which they had been working on for sometime. Another overhyped product of theirs which will fall face down soon. The Sales Team Leader is an individual contributor who doesn't have an iota of knowledge about creating a successful team. Very partial towards a few set of people, he'll close his own deals and ensure the new hires lag way behind. A deliberate attempt to ensure that they are fired in 1 or 2 months time. When you've spent a decade in the D2C sector trying to build brands and failing each time and had to join an org like Contlo, it speaks volumes about your own competency and skills. The HR is a mere puppet. I was fired within 4 weeks of joining and she asked me that "This news shouldn't have come as a surprise considering your performance?" and I said, "Yes, it was a surprise since I only got to know about it 5 minutes ago that I need to leave and no org judges a new hire and their skills within such a short span of time that too without any guidance or help" She stayed there all silent like an mannequin, waiting for that awkward moment of silence to pass after that. Her only and only duty is to send those oft-ignored Slack group announcement messages for cutting a Birthday cake on the floor or reminding everyone to join the all-hands meeting. How is she not speaking up with the ongoing hiring and firing practice that is employed at this org is perplexing and appalling at the same time. She's just another incompetent Senior folk but that's how the entire org is. There would be zero peer learning for any experienced professional (with upwards of 5-6 years of workex) who joins this organization as 90% of the employees here are 2022/2023 graduates. Interns are hired in bunches and grinded to the ground with tons of work load while being paid peanuts and then fired even before their tenure comes to an end for no valid reasons. Just read the last 10 reviews an you'll figure how shambolic the organizational process here is. Stay away and save yourself from the mental torture and trauma.
