Pros

Sometimes you may help a child. Fellow workers are great.

Cons

Low pay, unsafe work environment, management only cares about the dollar, not about the children. The place has mold through out, dirty, under staff, a lot of staff gets injured due to lack of back up. Management lies to staff or potential staff. Offers bonus to sign on but never gives it, always find a reason not to or keeps putting it off. This place is not safe for the children nor staff! Needs to be closed down.

Pros

Opportunity to impact children who are in desperate need of a positive influence Great co-workers who tend to be very supportive at the counselor level There are always opportunities to get more hours due to short staffing Flexible schedule if you are not full-time

Cons

Some of the clients are too violent and verbally aggressive for a no hands setting (you will be cursed at and threatened OFTEN by clients) Stressful and emotionally draining dealing with both the clients and non supportive senior management Often understaffed! Some counselors will be responsible for over 20 clients by themselves Employees are in constant fear of being fired Aggressive clients are sometimes rewarded for bad behavior in order to "keep them calm"

Bad experience

Pros

Clients want a good role model and to complete their treatment. Coworkers are personable and hardworking. Plenty of opportunity for overtime.

Cons

Staff to client ratios are completely unmanageable and direct care staff are always blamed for bad management decisions. Staffing problems will come up every few months with staff sometimes responsible for 20 or more clients to themselves. Pay is horrible and after a long time working there you might get a 20 cent raise (or less). Staff always put in unsafe positions and management threatens to affect your career everytime you get a write up.
