Pros

There are not a lot of pros to working at this company. It is in a good location in downtown SF.

Cons

They hire people with no intention of paying them until they have their own clients. This can take months, and you can only begin working here after passing the series 65 securities exam. Even then, it would take years to build up enough clients to make a decent living. Even though you are unpaid, you are expected to work 8-5 Monday through Friday, while researching potential leads by night. No leads are provided, merely some phone numbers to cold call. The business model revolves around getting people to work for no pay for a while, having those people get burned out and quit, passing on their leads essentially for free. They have cheap, terrible CRM software. The atmosphere at this place is so Republican it's toxic, with "Libtard" being a common term used by the partners to describe anyone remotely liberal.

Pros

Huge opportunity to be a part of something big. ClearPath offers the chance to really contribute and further build on top of a great foundation. In the advisor role, you will learn the basics of business development, financial planning, investment/portfolio management, and ongoing client relationship management. Advisors also have the chance to build meaningful personal relationships with leaders in technology and work directly with the partners who have 20+ years in the business. The role is a great way jump in to financial services and will provide a glimpse into many different aspects of wealth management. Not many other RIAs let someone new to industry jump right into the advisor role - huge value in this experience. Great company culture, everyone gets along well and does plenty of fun activities outside of work hours.

Cons

Lots of trial-and-error and on-the-job learning, which can be viewed as a positive or negative, just depends on your personality. Being that the company is very nimble and almost start-upish, we are constantly working on new processes and trying new ideas - again this can be a positive or negative depending on personality. If you're looking for a firm with very structured corporate processes, ClearPath may not be the best fit. But that's the trade-off that you make and why there is so much opportunity to be a part of the team developing those structures. The first 1-2 years will be tough (from a financial & personal perspective), as you will essentially be starting from zero and need to learn many different aspects of the business before you can become successful. It's also not the type of opportunity where someone will be making sure you're successful by hovering over you - your success really is dependent on your own personal drive and motivation.
