Pros

I'm relatively new here but I can say that I've never joined a company that has been so welcoming. Starting a new job is exciting but also stressful. My manager and teammates have gone out of their way to make me feel at home. I wish I could better express how much that means to me.

Cons

Nothing yet. There's a lot to learn but I love that.

Pros

When I first started here the walls were made from the old red paneling from a shut Target store. It was a hard core startup, I didn't even know who my boss was on the first day and I remember walking to the apple store with the CEO to buy my computer. Only one guy and his dog were in the office when I showed up on my first day. Today we have six kinds of coffee additive in the fridge and take up two floors of a larger building not made from the pillaged walls of a shut down Target. We've come far. Luckily I eventually found out who my boss was and he ended up being a manager so strong that I'm pretty sure the only more competent leaders I'm aware of are fictional (even though I give him a hard time occasionally). There is a very short list of friends and family I have learned more from more than the leaders at Checkfront. I've had the opportunity to work with small business adventure/adrenaline type clients who are downright fun to work with, if a little bit demanding sometimes. Since these are small businesses when you work with them you generally have no choice but to learn something about the whole thing and how they work together, all of the functional areas (accounting HR marketing sales etc.). Fascinating. I've had the opportunity to travel and speak at tradeshows even though they screw up your life a bit. Well worth it. If laughter truly adds 7 minutes to your life each time I'm pretty sure I'm going to live forever. I laugh at work so hard that I cry probably twice a month. I love the people I work with.

Cons

It's a startup, nobody has the answers. Sometimes my learning has been so painful that I've had to lie awake at night staring at the ceiling experiencing wave after wave of nausea because I screwed up so bad. But it made me stronger at my career and probably a better person too.

Sometimes I miss those horrible red walls, and shopping for hardware with new team members on their first day. Although, this generally meant we (I) forgot you were starting that day, sorry. Thankfully we have a great people ops team now that makes sure it’s not a guy, a dog, and an empty desk that greets you on your first day. Thanks for returning on your second day, and sticking with us on this rather crazy ride. Career and professional development is something we need to get better at and is a big priority for this year. As a product driven company from our earliest days, all of our pride was in building a great product that our customers love. Of course, that’s still the case, but watching our team grow in their careers and become true leaders (not bosses) is truly amazing. -Jason Co-founder, CEO

Pros

-Casual work environment. -Events are often and fun. -The office itself is cool. -Customers have great stories. -Lots of intelligence among the ranks. -You'll make some amazing friends. -Laughter is frequent and loud. -Most people try hard there.

Cons

-Politics are BRUTAL at this office. -People leave or are fired constantly. -The remote work "policy" is a total sham. -Severe deficit in leadership empathy. -Personal development support is a lie. -Several departments lack accountability. -Distrust and inexperience in HR leads to toxic negativity. -Compensation is a major disappointment over time.

Thanks for the feedback. We are committed to creating a transparent and collaborative environment for our team, so I'm saddened you feel this way. Many of the “Cons” listed are extremely negative and not representative of the people, or what it is like to work at Checkfront. We have an incredibly talented team, that works hard every day to build something meaningful. With that said, we are absolutely imperfect, and always looking for ways to improve. Going from 12 to 30, to 60 employees adds complexity, gaps in communication and inevitability friction -- to be honest more than I imagined. We misstep along the way, and likely fail to say thank-you enough. But I'm very proud of our team, their efforts, and achievements against many odds. We set goals that seem unobtainable. Sometimes we exceed them, sometimes we fall awfully short. But this is what we do, and this is what gets many of us up in the morning. Do we get it all right? Hell no. I could write a book. I am always available for a coffee to discuss both the great things about working at Checkfront, but more importantly and all of the challenges we face and how that impacts YOU -- there will most certainly be more to come. Continued feedback from customers and our employees are critical to our success. If you're up to a more constructive discussion I'd love for you to take me up on that coffee. Anytime. -Jason Co-founder, CEO
