Pros

Good benefits and decent starting pay. Nice staff for the most part.

Cons

Absolutely no opportunity to advance, within your classification or to a higher classification. Bad administration that is only concerned with their salary increases and increasing your workload. Being harrassed to donate to the annual fund drive, and at their designated minimum amount. The Human Resources Department is completely dysfunctional and lacks integrity. Management is not trained appropriately and it effects staff tremendously. They hire new people at higher rates than long-term staff, which may seem fine to a new person, until you need to be trained.

Pros

The students are earnest and seeking to improve themselves for the job market.

Cons

The teaching and service load are very high considering the publication requirements. There is word that the teaching load will increase. The state doesn't support higher education adequately, so there are always budget shortfalls which increases competition for funds within the university. The competitive climate creates tensions, and collegiality is very low. Administrative support for faculty is also very low. While collaboration is preaches, the reality is that the university is a classic bureaucracy with autocratic leadership. Outspoken junior faculty beware! Your ideas are not welcome. New ideas are viewed as an insult and threat to those who developed prior ones.

Pros

Great health and retirement benefits.

Cons

Heavy workload, no annual raise provided. Employee must request a raise yearly and that may be denied based on the department budget. Low pay for huge list of responsibilities.
