I have been working at BuzzFeed

    Pros

Amazing company to work for. Very open, very liberal. They want everything to have a voice. Nothing is off limits.

    Cons

Literally nothing. They are one of the best companies I have ever worked with in my time as a writer. And they pay well!

I worked at BuzzFeed full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It's cool to work at BuzzFeed. You get some creative freedom. Fun coworkers.

    Cons

No work-life balance at all. No increments. Never got a raise despite working hard and yielding results. HR is awful and management is a bit of a disaster.

I worked at BuzzFeed full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free lunches, great people, lots of events, room to grow, generous time off and great culture.

    Cons

You will do a lot of work for OK pay. You will have to deal with a lot of "OG" BuzzFeed politics. Leadership does what's best for themselves and their topline. I saw a lot of people get passed up for roles they deserved just because leadership wanted to "shake it up." Once that new "shake up hire" comes in, and they aren't qualified, it becomes a real mess. You can see why people who have devoted 4-7 years to the company leave suddenly. Promote the people who deserve it!

I worked at BuzzFeed full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A genuinely fun place to work, most of the time. Gives employees a lot of creative freedom, and the snacks/perks were occasionally good. I felt like I had a good amount of work-life balance, and worked on a lot of fun and varied projects while I was there. I really loved my direct coworkers, and remain close friends with them to this day.

    Cons

If you want to grow in your career, this is not the place. There is very little opportunity to grow, and even if you express desire and put in the work to grow, you're going to be met with a brick wall 90% of the time. Pay for creative staff is egregiously low across the board unless you're in a management position. Multiple rounds of layoffs, utter lack of transparency from senior management of the company, and near-constant structural reorgs make for a big culture of fear within the company. It feels like the constant hunt for profit has really damaged the spirit of the company, and the company I left (voluntarily) is a completely different company than the one I started at.

I worked at BuzzFeed full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lunch twice a week, though occasionally gives people food poisoning.

    Cons

Managers treat their employees poorly and pick favorites Lack of communication or organization Compensation is pretty low compared to the rest of the industry. The fun perks get taken away during layoffs, so don't get attached to them.
