Pros

If you work here long enough you will eventually advance, unless you are incompetent. If you stay long enough to retire, you will get a pension. Good employee health insurance. More paid vacation time than pretty much anywhere. One of the top ten highest paid public library systems in the USA (but take this with a grain of salt because Boston is one of the most expensive cities in the USA).

Cons

Big disconnect between the upper management at the Central Library (Copley) and the branches. Lots of burned out and quirky employees. You will eventually find yourself in uncomfortable (and sometimes potentially dangerous) situations with toxic, unhinged patrons.

Pros

Great organization, great people, I enjoyed my time working there.

Cons

Doesn't pay nearly enough to most employees for the cost of living in Boston (have to be a city resident).
