I worked at Arm full-time for more than a year

    Pros

An environment that is designed to help you develop and thrive. Arm prides itself on its three core beliefs, "We Not I", Be Your Brilliant Self", and "Passion for Progress". These beliefs are well and truly on display through the people you meet, the work undertaken, and the outcomes achieved. The newly opened campus creates a collegiate feel, with a pristine sense forward-thinking oozing from the very building you inhabit. I would recommend a role at Arm, provided some of the cons are overlooked.

    Cons

Whilst there are minimal downsides, there are a few which bite at the role, depending on the department. The core beliefs, whilst excellent in bringing diverse individuals together, can often create discord with good working practice. Oftentimes, there exist directions that are at odds with overall strategies. Individuals give such directions with no thought to how such directions apply and are rather flights of fanciful ego. There is a lack of delineated structures to resolve such issues. Discussions to resolve situations often land on deaf ears and leadership teams lack the power to make a change is made apparent with such power consolidated to a handful of the nomenklatura preventing forward progress. This is, however, mitigated by excellent colleagues who help to weather the storm.

I have been working at Arm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fewer every year you can cycle to work

    Cons

    - Management talked itself into a massive amount of money and now that it needs to actually deliver turnover expectations it has turned toxic. - Company can't burn through engineers fast enough by over-promising to customers then leaning on project teams to get something out the door. - All layers of management (of which there are many) play a circus week in week out of speaking in convoluted jargon to absolve themselves of any responsibility or blame right from the outset of projects. - Company constantly claims to be so talented but now that the smartphone boom is over many are turning out to have just been lucky to be along for the ride. - Toxic place for women, many instances of women being bullied and threatened. Rainbow flags and "we are diverse" seem to be the companies way of covering it up. - Any engineer who does anything more than sit at their desk and type magic into the screen is painted red and targeted by the weak, insecure and frankly immature people that work here. - hiring is now 100% nepotism because the word is out on how toxic it is here.
