Pros

Good health insurance. Lots of snacks

Cons

We had a meeting awhile ago and the CEO tells us I. All is fine II. Everything the news says is fake III. CEO starts singing ghostbusters to us Then immediately says that we'll have to make tough decisions about office closures (please see anyone complaining about the toronto office) We don't want to hear that, we don't want to hear you sing ghostbusters, are you kidding me? When you are the only one that is saying that the whole world is crazy, maybe you're the crazy one. You fall 9 times out 10? You need to reevaluate the way that you're walking because something is not right. This didn't give out full performance based bonuses (which is illegal for those that hit their goals. We worked hard for that). Many of us needed those bonuses so we could afford to leave and start looking for another job. They don't hire/promote within. They hire people that don't even know the curriculum or the job they are doing so then the people (please realize i'm saying people not person this is an organization issue) that do know it, have to pick up the slack until it becomes a daily part of their job or tasks. This either shows 1. They don't trust their employees to do it, or 2. They don't prepare or train their employees to starting taking on the responsibility. Post coronavirus Just had a meeting where they said: I. Raise freeze (even though it's already three months into the year, and they will not provide retroactive raises) II. Promotion freeze III. Stock was the highest it's been in a year this past month IV. But we are asking you to step up and take additional responsibilities, and maybe in 4-7 months you'll look good for a promotion but again the problem is they don't promote from within.

We appreciate your feedback. At 2U, we are proud of our people-first culture and the importance of having candid, honest, and open conversations about the business. We’re disappointed to hear that you don’t feel this at this time. In just weeks, the Coronavirus pandemic has reshaped the way the world lives, works, and learns. These are trying times for all of us. Across our business, we’ve needed to take critical steps to ensure the safety and job security of our employees, as well as the continuity and delivery of our offerings. While it’s never easy to make these decisions, like most businesses we have responsibility to be cautious with our investments while we evaluate the long-term impact of the pandemic. That being said, we're confident that the actions we’re taking will allow us to best serve our university partners, students and employees during this challenging time while creating a far-stronger 2U. Helping you grow within your career is very important to us. We encourage you to talk with your manager and request constructive feedback and a plan outlining what you need to accomplish in order to position yourself for the next step in your career at 2U. They can also explain our corporate bonus plan, which in 2019 was based on company performance targets, not individual ones. Overall, your insights are valuable to understanding what’s most important to our employees. If you would like to discuss further, please reach out to your HR business partner or email feedback@2U.com and reference “my Glassdoor review.”

Pros

No pros to working at 2U

Cons

This company does not care about its employees. 2U decided to shut down the Toronto office only 8 months after opening. Out entire Admissions department was fired, and our roles were moved to Florida so that 2U could save money.

First, thank you for your time at 2U and the contributions you made as part of our Toronto team. The decision to close the office was made after much thought and consideration about our evolving business and the challenges of maintaining a small satellite office. Throughout the last decade, we've seen that centralizing our admissions teams in hub offices where there is more best practice sharing, increased access to senior leaders, more professional development, and accordingly, a stronger career path, gives us more engaged and productive teams. While it is never easy to say goodbye to colleagues, this difficult decision was important to maximize our investment in our people and the resources to grow the business.

Pros

Absolutely nothing positive to say about my experience.

Cons

I worked at 2U as an Admissions Coordinator for several months. It was the worst professional experience of my career! • In the few months I worked at 2U, I saw 8 employees quit or get fired. An average of 2 per month. People are in fear of their job! • Admissions is made to feel horrible when they don't hit their enrolment numbers. Calls are recorded and played back to the entire office and advisors are singled out and criticized in front of everyone. • We were micromanaged and treated like children. We were also forced to attend multiple review meetings each week. During these meetings we were asked to explain what we are doing right down to the minute. • There is no HR at the Toronto office. HR is entirely outsourced to a 3rd party. They are never at the office, and they have not been present for any firings. • The office itself is terrible. The carpets are dirty, bathrooms are disgusting, and the office is right above a children's daycare. The noise is really annoying. We are also forced to clean because Trilogy is too cheap to hire a cleaning crew. • 2U let go of 67 people last month, and there is talk of more layoffs. • The Toronto 2U team is treated like an afterthought. The Toronto team doesn't enjoy the same advantages as the American teams like tuition reimbursement, snacks, matching contributions, travel reimbursement, and other perks. • There was no handbook for the first few months of opening, so company policies were handled by word of mouth or email. Several people were fired during this time, without understanding the rules and guidelines. • Canada's regulations are not followed. We were expected to work statutory holidays without receiving holiday pay. 2U should be reported to the labour board.

Employee feedback is important to hear, and we thank you for sharing. Your insights into some of our growing pains, especially as we become a global organization, are valuable to understanding the areas we need to continue to focus on. We’re growing quickly, revealing areas we need to focus on, and we are continually making improvements for our employees, our university partners, and their students. One example is a required training curriculum for all people managers at every level, covering comprehensive leadership skills, including new employee onboarding and training. We believe that hands-on training is key to developing our employees and we take our relationships and communications with our students very seriously. To help, we record calls with students, like other companies, as a way to help us continue to improve and provide our students with the best level of service. As a global company, we take pride in ensuring that all employees are treated equally and this includes benefits. It is a priority of ours as an organization to offer benefits packages that are competitive relative to the market of the specific country. Laws vary from country to country and we acknowledge that regulations around certain benefits like tuition reimbursement are quite complex. It is for this reason that, as a new employer in the country, we do outsource HR in Canada to ensure that we are abiding by all Canadian laws. Our overall benefits package is above average for the Toronto area and employees receive all Canadian national holidays and some Ontario-specific holidays. We take pride in all of our offices, especially our newest location in Toronto, and this includes office cleanliness. Our office does employee a daily cleaning service, but we ask our employees to be respectful of the space. The Toronto office is brand new, and while acknowledge that we do have younger neighbors who at times can be louder than others, employees have not stated that the noise impacts their productivity. As we grow, this will continue to be a top priority because employee development and growth is the heart of our organization and the linchpin to our future success. While you are no longer with 2U, we value your feedback and we would like to speak to you about your experience. Please reach out to feedback@2U.com and reference "my Glassdoor review" so we can talk.
