    Approves of CEO

I worked at Linode full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Autonomy, egalitarian atmosphere, brilliant people (esp. the CEO), treats employees well

    Cons

The CEO can be a little mercurial. While an outstanding visionary and CTO, CEO is not the best manager in the world. No metric driven bonuses. No stock options or stock sharing.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value less "sexy" functions.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Linode.

    Interview

15 minute "recruiter" screener, 30 minute manager phone call, followed by an inconsiderately long take-home exam riddled with gotchas and undisclosed test cases. They gave 24 hours to complete but a thoughtful completion of the exam would take even the most savvy leet-coders multiple hours, and in my case about 4-5. I think 2 questions would've sufficed.

Absolutely demoralizing to receive a generic rejection after slaving away on the assessment. I do not recommend you waste your time.
