Interview
Horrendous. The 1st meeting seemed positive. The 2nd similarly seemed positive, after speaking with one guy. Then I spoke to a 2nd guy who, despite my having 18 years' experience, at some point during the interview appeared to become very dismissive and started blowing me off. I have to assume it was because he felt threatened by just how much knowledge and experience I have, and started worrying I might end up replacing him at the company.
Nevertheless, I was tentatively optimistic, and sent a follow-up email to the 1st guy asking what the next steps were. A couple of days later, the guy #2 responded informing me they decided not to move forward with the hiring. I guess I should be grateful they didn't ghost me like they did another guy who left a review on this site.
Regardless, I was upset with that outcome and decided to reach out to the CEO to let him know. His response was... illuminating. He informed me that they didn't proceed because of my attitude.
Now, tell me, which do you think is more likely: that there was something wrong with my attitude, that I was on less than my best behavior during the job interviews (and, indeed, why wouldn't I be)? Or, those involved, wanting to cover their tails, after I went to the CEO, told him I had an attitude, and that he went with that because he didn't like me emailing him about the experience. I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions.
Suffice to say, it's all quite eyebrow-raising. 1st of all, he gaslit me (it's amazing that anyone in the corporate environment still resorts to gaslighting in 2023. It's like this guy's been sleep for the last 10 years, and totally missed the cultural developments of the last decade). 2nd, take a moment and ask yourself: do YOU want to work for a company that, should it become propitious for them, starts gaslighting you and questioning your "attitude"? Do you REALLY want to work for a company like that?
If so, welcome to your new home.
