Description The airwaves are good for more than just bringing music to your radio. Airwave Solutions operates a secure wireless communications network for emergency services in the UK. The system, based on the TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio standard), is used by some 250,000 police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel to communicate via both voice and data transmission. The system is part of a government-funded Critical National Infrastructure initiative in the UK that provides Airwave access to more than 300 emergency services and government agencies. Airwave will provide private mobile radio service for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The company is being acquired by Macquarie Group.
