I interviewed for an Engineering Manager position at ZeroHeight in September 2022. I was approached on the Hired platform to apply for this role. First stage was with an internal recruiter: I was given expectations around the nature of the role at ZeroHeight, and asked the standard few questions about my current role, and what I am looking for from my next role. The next stage was a systems design interview, in which I was asked to design an email-based music recommender system. I described a fairly boring Django/Postgres/AWS powered system, with architecture diagrams and database structures. Despite being an Engineering Management position, there was no assessment of management competencies. A few days after the systems design interview I was informed I was not being progressed for the role. In writing I was offered the opportunity to receive feedback. I accepted this offer, but despite several follow-ups, I did not receive any feedback or hear anything more from the company.
