      Windows Systems Engineer Interview

      May 3, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Jacksonville, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at iVenture Solutions (Jacksonville, FL)

      Interview

Spoke with a hiring rep on the phone a few times, who confirmed that what they were looking for was something I both could and desired to do. After that, there was a phone call with the hiring manager to discuss the more technical aspects and ascertain my skill set. Finally, I was asked to drive 2 hours to their corporate office to meet in person with the hiring manager, the owner, and a couple of Sr engineers for a few hours. I felt very comfortable with the questions they were asking me and the technologies for the position, but ultimately I was not offered the position as the owner deemed me "too cavalier" and expressed concern that I wouldn't perform well in direct proximity to customers. This, gleaned from the same meeting where the owner himself casually used course language that would never be used in front of a customer unless they were already VERY familiar. The company seemed pretty great, the people were friendly and intelligent, but I can't help but wonder if I dodged a bullet from a hypocritical/micro-managing owner with these guys.

Some of our candidates do have to travel to other offices we have depending on their job position, in order to see the office space and meet the teams they will be working with. Having multiple people involved in our interview process is very important to us. When we have candidates travel from other locations to one of our offices, we do our best to make sure that we have done as much on the front end from an interview standpoint so that we can end in a hire after the onsite interview. Unfortunately this doesn’t always happen based on the final interview. There is so much that goes into our interview process. Just as much as we are interviewing our candidates, we want candidates to be interviewing us so that when we make a hire, it will be good for both parties long term. I do apologize for how you felt about the process and wish you luck in your future endeavors.
