I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at cermati in Nov 2025
Interview
I applied online to Cermati for the positions 'Data Scientist – Risk Platform' and 'Software Engineer in Data'. For both roles, I went through an HR interview that covered very basic questions: a self-introduction, a walk-through of my experiences, challenges I faced in one of my experiences, why I wanted to join Cermati, what motivates me personally, and what kind of work environment I find difficult to deal with.
After that, both roles required tests. For 'Data Scientist – Risk Platform', it was an open-book assessment consisting of ten statistics-related questions. For 'Software Engineer in Data', it was a HackerRank test with ten questions: two required writing code involving HTTP requests and the remaining eight were data structures and algorithms theory.
Shortly after completing everything, they called me to say that I was not suitable for either role and instead offered me a 'Business Intelligence Analyst' position. Bro, what? If I was supposedly not a fit, why put me through the interviews and assessments in the first place? I’m confident I completed both tests well, and my entire career has been in data science and data engineering. Very unprofessional.
