      Business Intelligence Manager Interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Yammer

      Interview

I emailed an HR contact I was given and was then directed to take an online quiz. It was short, about 5 questions. The first few were pretty simple probability questions and the last one was more open ended/problem solving oriented. After that I was contacted to set up a phone screen which consisted of one probability question and one analytical question. I was then moved on to the next round, which was an onsite interview. The onsite interview was about 2 hours long and I met with 6 people. All of the interviews consisted of both behavior questions about how I would respond to a problem they are usually confronted with on a daily basis and probability questions.

      Question 1

You have 50 coins that add up to $1. You go into a coffee shop to buy coffee that is $1. The shop has a policy that if you are a penny short, you can still get the coffee. You're about to pay and you drop one coin. What is the probability that you can still get a coffee?

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Yammer (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2013

      Interview

Initially there was an online test consisting of six questions regarding basic probability (mostly applications of conditioning). Then I had about a 30 minute interview with a recruiter who detailed the position. Afterwards I had a 30 minute interview with a junior memory of the data analytics team. He asked one probability question and one general question that was more in the realm of product management.

      Interview

I applied online and after several weeks a recruiter followed up with a link to do an online test. I did the test but after some days I received email of not being selected which was a bit strange because I thought I had done the test well. The questions in test were:- I went out dinner last night and discovered that I charged 50.40$ in total for my meal. Tax is 5% and I always tip 20% of the meal +tax. If 60% of the cost of my meal was my entrée, how much did I spend on Entrée? 22.9$ You walk into a las vegas casino. There 10 slot machines. 9 of them win 20% of the time. 1 of them , the lucky one, wins 30% of the time. But you don’t know which one is the lucky one. You watch someone put a quarter into the machine and win. What is the chance it was the lucky machine? Probability = 0.10 Two players, A and B are rolling a fair die. Whoever rolls 5 first wins. A plays first and then B. What is the probability that A wins? Please discuss. Do you think there is any unfair advantage for any player in the game?
