      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Apr 1, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Singapore
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Wise (Singapore) in Mar 2020

      Interview

Got referred by a friend working in TransferWise First, you will need to complete an online Hackerrank Test. The test duration is 90 mins. Mixes of MCQs and Coding questions. MCQs are in the domain of OOP and a few common engineering knowledge. Coding questions have both Algorithm and SQL. All are mid-level nothing too difficult. Get yourself familiar with Hackerrank beforehand and you should be fine. Next Recruiter will have an initial chat with you for 30 mins. My recruiter was friendly and professional. The next round gonna be an onsite technical round with 2 engineers for 90 mins. We went through my background and the system that I have previously worked on. We did 2 algo questions, again, mid-level, your thought process is what matters here. If you pass the technical round, there is a product round after this, you will meet a PM and discuss your thought on product development and decision in general. The round can be pretty fast, mine last 30 mins. The final round is a Tech Lead round, where I meet 2 tech leads. It's like a combination of both technical and product round. My impression of the tech lead is good. They do have a very deep technical knowledge base on my discussion with them during the interview. I got an offer a few days later. The recruiter will schedule a Zoom meeting with both of the team leads above to go through the offer and the detail of my position with me. This is a very unique experience as in other companies, normally recruiters will just call you to announce the offer. Overall, I feel like TW really cares about each candidate and willing to spend a lot of time and attention on potential candidates.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wise (London, England) in May 2026

      Interview

I had a worst experience with WISE of my entire job career. I applied through the company career page and I received a formal interview call as a screening with the recruiter. I joined the meeting as per the schedule and the recruiter didn't even come on time. She joined the meeting after some time then the original time. Even after joining she didn't even say a single word and started questioning me, I was expecting a brief intro from her and ME. But she didn't do that. As soon as I started answering the question she started her new topic of questions, she didn't wait for me to complete my answer. The worst nightmare for me because being on that 30 min call was horrible and this made me feel even if they offer me the job, I will not take it because of seeing what type of persons do they hire and How come they managed to get a place in WISE.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Wise (London, England) in May 2026

      Interview

The process that I participated in was divided into: 1. Screen with HR 2. "Pair Programming. w/ 2 devs" (Implement a Token Manager) It is not an algorithm test 3. Feedback I didn't receive an offer. In pair programming, don't expect to be a real pair programmer or a collaborative implementation (the "How you work together with us to solve the problem" is a lie). Even if you led the pair to the right solution, if they prompt you with questions, you are already out. The red flags pointed out by the dev team don't make any sense, although it is a pair programming and the right approach/solution was given, red flags were pointed out like: - Asked for clarification about the problem (I should not ask) - Implement the right problem when there is a question about missing parts during the interview (Except in pair programming) Although I had helped Auth0 implement their Token Manager and had implemented it multiple times, according to the Wise devs, because I asked for clarifications and was prompted by them with questions about the implementation, even providing the right solution during a PAIR-PROGRAMMING, they classified me as a JR~MID Developer (11 YoE in big North American companies). So I do believe that: 1 They are not hiring anyone OR 2 The position was already closed by another candidate BEFORE the test OR 3 They are looking for a unicorn
