      Senior Android Developer Interview

      Sep 11, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WillowTree (Houston, TX) in Aug 2015

      Interview

5 Rounds of interviews. The first round was an online submission that took about 20 minutes where they would flash a question on the screen, give you 15-30 seconds to think about it and then answer it. Was not hard stuff and fairly obvious questions to a developer. The second round was an interview with HR. I must have passed because she set up the interview for two days later while i was doing the interview. The third interview was a phone interview with a lead android developer. I had a great time talking about my experience, answering some technical questions speckled in-between and talking about the company culture. I must have passed this one as well because he told me that I was going to get the interview project that day to work on. The fourth step was an interview project. The project was fairly simple but they asked me to keep it confidential so I can't share any details. It is setup to test your knowledge in Android and give you time to work on it on your own. There was no deadline but I finished it after work that evening. Maybe 6 hours of work. Maybe I should have taken some more time but I got a followup interview. I heard back on Monday morning asking me to share the project with a few more developers. Then they asked to interview me a few days later. The fifth interview was with 2 of their principal architects and the lead developer I talked with in the third interview. They asked some difficult questions and I did not know all of the answers. I think they were on the fence with me as it took 2 weeks to hear back about the results of this interview. I should have probably asked some questions pointing out things I knew instead of leaving it as not knowing quite enough at this interview. They told me at the end that I was not quite experienced enough for what they were looking for and that I showed promise. I might re-apply in a few months (which they invited me to do) if I haven't found a different job I want to go to by then. I was disheartened that I did not get a job offer as this was a dream job by the time I had gotten to this point in the interview process. Best of luck to anyone applying here, and may you not get stuck at the final step of the interview process. I had a very pleasant experience with the whole process and people I talked with. The whole process was very quick.
