I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Weldmatic Automation (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2025
Interview
Had a brief phone call with the interviewer—one of the co-founders. Straight up, he started the question: “Do you even know our job description and what we do?” After answering that question with a brief description of their product, he started saying, “I don’t know what is going on with people nowadays, that they don’t read the job description and what the company does. I have sent back five people today, and I can give you another chance...”
This, to me, is very rude and disrespectful. First of all, as a conversation, you need to let the other person talk and listen, rather than starting the conversation with your assumptions and accusations. Nowadays, people apply to multiple jobs at the same time, and an interview is an opportunity for both parties to learn more about each other. You can’t expect people to do a detailed business analysis before coming to the first five-minute phone call with you.
All in all, the co-founder seems to lack communication skills and basic respect for the people he is talking to. I wish the company all the best in being successful and growing, but as a co-founder, you need to work on your communication style and show respect for others.
