      Senior User Experience Designer Interview

      Mar 23, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in Feb 2020

      Interview

Interview process consisted of 1 phone screen with the recruiter and 2 portfolio reviews with design managers, then a 6 hour on site interview. During the on site I barely had time to ask questions or get a feel for the culture of the office because I was in a room all day as different managers came through to ask me questions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Cambridge, MA) in May 2018

      Interview

Worked the interview process through the HR representative, who was amazing through the entire process. Spoke with the hiring manager via a video chat, which I believe went well. Arrived for the in-person interview, welcomed by the HR representative and was made to feel very comfortable prior to the interview. Met with several people from the team and teams I would be working with in the position. After answering a very specific question, I could tell the interview was not going to go a I had hoped. I continued to meet with team members who asked very relevant questions based on their position within the company and how it related to this role. Two things that happened during this interview process that I was slightly uncomfortable with. First, I was asked to offer a solution to a very specific domain problem they were having within the company. Personally, as a designer, I am not a fan of free work during the interview process. If you are asking the potential candidate a real-world question, they should be compensated for their time and knowledge. Second, the woman who yawn at least twice during my time with her in the room. I found it quite rude because the woman never once excused herself.
