Met with recruiter, Taylor. Went on to screen with the hiring manager who seemed talented and friendly. Moved on to meet with the head of the business unit, who spoke at length about their accomplishments. Noted lack of eye contact as they sat facing the side. They asked what your marketing strategy would be in that role. Being asked for “ideas” on the spot tells me that the interviewer doesn’t understand how good marketers ideate (data + cross channel strategy), or they’re looking to crowd source their next big idea via questionable methods. That being said, it does seem to be a popular question for sales people to ask. All in all, it would not have been a great fit with this particular person, but I was so excited about the idea of working for the person running marketing that I was less focused on orange flags. Unfortunately the disconnect was mutual and I never received a follow up, despite reaching out to the recruiter. I found the ghosting to be particularly disappointing and unprofessional. It takes less than 5 minutes to let someone know they’re being passed over.
