I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Visionist, Inc. (Columbia, MD) in Jul 2025
Interview
The whole experience was a bit strange. I arrived at the front desk and was greeted, then asked to sign in on a tablet. I waited around the lobby for a bit and then the recruiter I'd been emailing arrived. The interaction was awkward, like he didn't want to engage with me initially.
I was taken on a tour of the offices for about 15 minutes and given what came off as incoherent facts, some talking points about the usual "family" and "open door" stuff, and then he dumped me in a conference room to wait for the interviewers.
Two interviewers came in a couple minutes later. One was cool, the other didn't make eye contact and just sat there staring at my resume nodding from time to time. The one guy did all the talking. Didn't really ask much in the way of questions but we casually discussed my resume and the normal "What do you want to be when you grow up" stuff.
It was all very weird feeling, even for technical people. Didn't get a vibe, they didn't seem to get one either. Then they left and strange recruiter guy came in. He gave me a pen, didn't say much, and then walked me out. I got a super weirdly "we don't have any positions available" email the next day.
The whole thing was very Stepford.

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback with us. I’m genuinely sorry that your recent interview experience fell short. We understand how much effort goes into preparing for interviews, and it’s disappointing when the process doesn’t reflect that. Our goal is always to fully engage with every candidate and to represent our culture throughout the interview process. I hear you that the experience felt disjointed and that parts came across as unengaging or unclear. I’ve personally shared your feedback with our recruiting and interviewing teams because your perspective matters. Your insights will help us improve the experience for future candidates. I know your time is valuable, and I truly appreciate that you chose to provide this feedback rather than simply moving on.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Visionist, Inc.
Interview
initial screening not an interview, asked what I wanted from the company, what role I preferred, general security questions, that would get in the way of a clearance, overall it was very easy
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
if I had any communications with foreign nationals.
Asked me questions about my resume. They gave me a tour of the office, and had a conversation about the projects they were working on. Overall, it was pretty chill and I like how they operate.
