As part of the recruitment process, I was asked to complete three online competency tests (two personality based and one for general intelligence).
About 15 minutes after completing the tests, I received a standard email stating that they would not be taking my application any further. After asking for feedback, it turns out that I did not meet the pass criteria for the General Intelligent Assessment. The results showed I answered a total of 137 questions, and only 3 were answered incorrectly.
On the last page of the assessment results, it clearly states that companies should not be using the outcome of test results alone in determining hiring candidates, and that this should be used in tandem with an interview or further discussion. The below text is copied from the results document:
“Results should be considered along with other factors which might be important to performance, namely: experience, education, examination results, previous training undertaken and strategies which are employed to cope with any particular or specific problem areas.”
Also: “Never offer assessment results as the reason for non-acceptance.”
I am shocked that in 2023 companies are using these pointless assessments as a way of screening potential candidates from roles without giving them chance to discuss relevant experience at interview stage. The questions had absolutely nothing to do with the role I applied for.
I am also disappointed at the standard outcome response with no details of the outcome (I had to ask a few times for some detailed feedback).
To be honest, I don’t want to work for a company that uses this type of screening process. This review is purely for other people to form their own opinion of the company.
