Verizon's recruiting contractor found my resume from one of the sites I posted it to and contacted me by email. I verified I would be interested in working for Verizon and they set up a time for a phone interview. Then somebody from Verizon's HR interviews you.

Nothing special or unusual ("sell this pencil to me", "what animal would you most like to be?", etc). They're wanting to know at this point how your skills, training, and education would make you the best candidate for this position.
