My interview experience was quite confusing. I started with an online interview, and while the software platform itself was a bit tricky to navigate, the bigger issue was the lack of clarity around the interview structure.
I moved on to a second-round interview with a team member. The team was friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, the HR communication beforehand was misleading. I specifically asked HR whether the interview would focus on behavioral questions or a portfolio walkthrough. I was told it would focus on cultural fit and that I did not need to prepare a portfolio presentation. Luckily I prepared it previously.
Once the interview began, the teammate informed me that the session would, in fact, be a portfolio/Previous work walkthrough. Anyone as a design candidate, you know this is incredibly disorienting. It put me in a position where I felt unprepared—not because I lacked the experience or preparation, but because I was told explicitly not to prepare it.
