      Software Engineer Interview

      May 29, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Verily (Boston, MA) in Mar 2025

      Interview

      1) Recruiter screen email 2) Technical phone interview 3) Virtual onsite with 4X technical interviews 4) Team Matching call The entire process dragged on for nearly two months, a significant investment of my time and energy. Initially, they moved me to the virtual onsite immediately after the phone screen, creating a false sense of urgency. However, this was quickly followed by a two-week wait just to hear I passed the onsite. After passing, another week crawled by before the team matching call was scheduled. Then came the most frustrating part, a three week period, after what I believed was a positive team match conversation where, instead of silence, I received periodic updates stating that the team was still in the process of interviewing and that an update was expected soon, only to finally receive a rejection. This extended period of being strung along with vague promises of updates felt particularly disrespectful of my time, especially after such a lengthy process. They seem to be clinging to a Google esque, drawn out interview process, complete with a grueling four part virtual onsite. Yet, their compensation package doesn't align with this FAANG level rigor, offering no equity and only a base salary with a "potential" bonus. It's a stark disconnect that makes the extensive time commitment and the misleading communication even more disappointing. In this job market, it's disheartening to see companies, regardless of their reputation, feel entitled to treat candidates with such a lack of clear and honest communication.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Verily (San Francisco, CA) in May 2026

      Interview

I went through multiple rounds of the interview process including 5 interviews in person at the office for 4 hours. Everything went well and I was able to solve everything with plenty of left over time. Seems like they aren't even looking for someone for this position and are just doing it for statistics. This position has been open for over 3 months which is impossible for the bay area. After all I waited 3 weeks to get this response.

      Interview

Froze up during the technical interview over something small. Interviewer just silently watched. There was not any room for engagement in asking questions. Completely on me tho, I blanked on basic Java.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Verily (San Bruno, CA) in Jan 2026

      Interview

Process spanned 5 (!!) months. I had my onsite in early January but had to follow up multiple times with the recruiters, at times getting no response, to inquire about updates to my application. It seems like they completely forgot about it. I was asked to do an additional interview, which I did, and received good feedback, but ultimately the recruiter was unable to find a team match for me. It took two months from the onsite to ultimately get rejected. I received feedback from the interviews and feel as if the expectations exceeds what should be typically expected for a mid-level role, with some comments being over-particular regarding certain signals that don't feel meaningful. It seems like they want to be a FAANG, without actually being a FAANG, given their comparatively low pay, lack of equity and bad reviews. Company overall seems chaotic and messy.
