I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Vector Planning and Services (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2020
Interview
A recruiter contacted me after finding my resume online. He explained what company he worked for and what position needed to be filled within. Then, I did not hear back for an entire month after that. The following month, the recruiter contacted me again to see if I would be open to an in-person interview to which I agreed. For the initial interview, I met with the HR manager and the Senior Program Manager. I thought the interview went well. I was then invited back to meet with the CEO, Business Analyst and Recruiter. One question I asked was whether my position would be allowed to telework at all, as I had explained that schools were beginning to transition to remote learning due to the pandemic. I asked about the possibility of the office closing, but the CEO said the position would strictly be in the office without any plan to close if in case there was an emergency crisis. Although I was eventually offered the job, 3 days later after signing the offer letter, the recruiter contacted me and said there would be a hiring freeze and that they did not know what would happen to the future of their company and whether they would still be around. I asked if it was due to the rise of pandemic or the executive order at the time, but they were adamant that it wasn't. They reassured me that they would hire me and get me onboard once they would be hiring again.
A few months later in June, the recruiter contacted me to find out my status to which I explained that I was still interested and wanted to know if they had a plan in place for safely reopening their office in accordance with the city of san diego health and services department. I was told they had employees going in and out of the office despite the office closures around the city that time. I asked to please contact me back once they had a plan in place for me to come back and I also wanted to know if they were wearing masks in the office to which the recruiter said he had no idea because he had been working from home since March. I wanted to be sure that the person who would be training me would feel comfortable being in close proximity to someone during a 1 on 1 training.
The following week after the recruiter called to find out my status, I found out through a notification pop up on a job site online that the position I was hired for was relisted, but under the title of "Administrative Assistant", yet same operation job responsibilities. Interesting.
No wonder I never heard back! I wish they were honest with me from the start and told me that they would be relisting the job under a different title. I'm just disappointed. I went through this whole process to feel like they had some sort of "buyers remorse" on hiring me in the end. The pandemic became an easy way for them to start over on searching for someone else to fill the role at a much lower pay. I never heard back from the recruiter after that last call.
