      Ruby On Rails Developer Interview

      Mar 24, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at UC Irvine (Irvine, CA) in Mar 2023

      Interview

After applying online, a week later I got an email from the recruiter. We then talked on the phone and he asked me what I did at my previous job. Then they scheduled an interview the following week. The interviewer was a senior developer. He asked me basic questions about software development. This was not a technical interview. Then they scheduled me for a technical interview. During the interview, I was given 45 minutes to solve a problem. I was able to solve it and get the desired output. I had 2 interviewers one of whom was the same person who interviewed me before. They then asked me questions about my code like how it worked and how I would have coded it if I had more time. Then they asked me other basic questions about programming in general. 2 weeks later I had a "meet the team" interview with 8 other people. Each person asked me a question or two about how I would react to different situations. I felt optimistic because I passed the technical interview and the meet the team interview went well. However, the next week I was informed they chose another candidate. I was disappointed.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

During the technical interview I was asked to read from a CSV file. The data from the CSV file had to be processed and filtered and written to another CSV file. I was given 45 minutes to complete the task. I was allowed to google search. I was able to finish it and get the desired output. Other questions: 1) Have you worked in an agile environment and describe the process 2) What is the biggest challenge you have ever had? 3) If you have a conflict with one person, how would you deal with it? 4) What is your way of writing bug free code?
