      Intern - Software Engineer Interview

      Jan 13, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at U.S. Bank (Dallas, TX) in Nov 2024

      Interview

The interview experience at U.S. Bank was, in my opinion, among the most disappointing I’ve had when compared to other banks and tech companies. After my initial conversation with the recruiter, it became clear that she wasn’t well-informed about the position. She scheduled me with two managers who, after reviewing their LinkedIn profiles and discussing their backgrounds, appeared to lack any coding experience. It seemed evident that they reported to someone in infrastructure rather than having direct engineering expertise. It's disheartening to see U.S. Bank hiring engineering interns without having the appropriate people to assess their skills. The interview focused solely on behavioral questions related to situations I may have encountered in college or during projects, with no technical inquiries. It felt like they prioritized hiring candidates who fit a certain mold over those with the necessary skills. If you're good at talking rather than actually demonstrating your ability to perform the job, this might be the place for you. It was not for me based on the two managers who interviewed. Additionally, I never received any feedback from the recruiter despite sending multiple emails, and my attempt to reach out to Barak, the head of campus recruiting, went unanswered as well. Overall, the lack of professionalism was disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend pursuing a tech internship here.

      Interview

I really loved the interview process. Smooth, laidback, and very informative. Mostly behavioral questions. The only drawback is that it takes forever to hear back from them. So if you do ever interview with them, make sure to be patient throughout the process.
