      Graduate Nurse (GN) Interview

      Mar 5, 2018

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at TriStar Health (Smyrna, TN) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter for their nurse residency program. The only reason the process was so long was because I am counting from the time I submitted my application to when I was interviewed. It took about 5 days to schedule the interviews after submission and then I scheduled them far out. This was by far my LEAST favorite interview, inside or outside of HCA. It was the most impersonal interview I’ve ever had to sit through period. (Too Long, Didn’t Read at the bottom) Let me first describe the other Tristar interviews I’ve had so you can understand what I was expecting (You can skip this if you want just StoneCrest information in the next paragraph). You go in, there is a panel with the floor directors and they have all of your information including your resume and your behavior analysis and it comes with a list of questions they can ask you. They normally don’t go off of the list too much and ask more specific questions relating to my situation (being out-of-state, my clinical experiences, etc.). Then they show me around the hospital and walk me out. One facility also had a peer review and I thought that was nice. Now onto Stonecrest. Their panel was smaller, which is to be expected since it is a small hospital but, as mentioned before, it was extremely impersonal. They had a list of questions which they verbatim asked me. I honestly don’t know if they knew or cared about where I had my senior practicum or where I went to school. It felt like they were just going through the motions and weren’t actually looking to add anyone into their family. After the asking all of my questions about their hospital, they thanked me for coming and one person stood up, opened the conference room door and told me to push the green button on the wall to let myself out of the HR department. Maybe I’m spoiled but it was literally 18 feet away and I felt like I was being kicked out. Sorry for the long post. This was the smallest hospital I’ve interviewed at and I was expecting a more personal interview. TLDR; I drove 5 hours to feel like they were just going through the motions and didn’t really care about my interview. I would not recommend their location to be the first interview you ever have because it would’ve made me feel terrible if I didn’t already have offers.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Let’s say you have a pediatric patient who is supposed to have a procedure done but their mother is nervous about it. What do you do? The family members of a patient ask you to not tell the patient of their recent terminal diagnosis. Would you? You have a patient who is grumpy and argumentative. How do you handle patients like that? Why do you think your past experiences have prepared you to be a nurse? What are the pros and cons of being a nurse? How do you handle decision making under stress? What are your top 3 facilities within Tristar and your top 3 departments?
