      Client Services ISO Manager Interview

      Dec 14, 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TransPerfect (New York, NY) in Nov 2014

      Interview

Contacted them after seeing an ad on LinkedIn about the company and role. It wasn't exactly my field (have more of a communications background) but I had some interest in law and thought the chance to be a manager would be somewhat cool even though I knew at entry level I wouldn't have much power. I had two phone interviews that were pretty basic and it seemed obvious that they were just looking to move me along unless I said something crazy. They then sent me a proofreading test that I had 40 mins to complete once received. It wasn't that hard but it required scanning back in a document which I found weird and made it clear that the role would be mostly just proofreading/ serving as a whipping boy if something went wrong with a document sent to a law firm. I was then set up with an in person interview. The office seemed really disorganized and both my interviewers had to borrow someone else's desk. Most of the office is dedicated document production and hectic. The interviews were pretty easy but neither of the 2 people were all that familiar with my resume. My 2nd interviewer was totally unprepared. It also became clear that the work would be not even really proofreading documents but looking at stuff like tab organization and headers. It would also require early hours (thou I expected that) and they made a point of making sure I'd be able to respond on weekends. No deal breakers but it quickly became clear that this would not be a particularly gratifying job. Basically all the worst parts of being a paralegal. In between interviews there was a logic test that seemed like an uber easy and short (~30 min ) LSAT. Next day I got call that I got the job. They really pushed for me to say yes ASAP and were not too happy when I said I needed a week. I then got a call half way in that week saying if you don't say yes soon we are going to look at other candidates. When I told them a day after that I was accepting another offer they thanked me for wasting their time. While I didn't parade the fact that I was evaluating another job (and as soon as I received the other one I told them) I don't think it is unreasonable to expect candidates to take some time to decide. Had I accepted I agreed to start immediately which I thought was pretty flexible on my end. From my experience and reading other reviews I think I dodged a bullet. That said, after a year of unemployment their 40 grand offer didn't seem too bad at first.
