Interviewer seemed unprepared, and asked very few relevant follow up questions. It gave the impression that the bar for hiring was fairly low, which made me uneasy given the difficulty of this type of role.

Conversational, informal. She gave a lot of detailed information about the program, asked individualized questions around working with youth and managing risk/outdoor experience. Be prepared with actual examples of any answer you give.

6 day pre-hire seminar on the company property. You go camping with head instructors and other applicants. They take you through the day to day as a WFI. They do role playing as clients and instructors and they try and create a bonding atmosphere.
