HR was extremely nice and informative. Spent an hour talking with them and loved every minute.
Was told I’d have a technical interview. This is fine. I have a bachelors and masters degree in a technical (and applicable) field. I conduct technical interviews for my current company quite frequently, and I partake in them on the other side of the table as a frequent check in of my own skills.
First, the interview was to be 30 minutes. My interviewer was 5 minutes late, and had to “go to another call” 5 minutes early. How incredibly unprofessional.
Second, I was asked a common question in my field, which I was quite well prepared for, as I do very similar work in my current role. I answered the question and gave multiple ideas/options of how to solve. The interviewer then asked me the same exact question again, with no other distinctions or clarifications. Quite confused, I tried to clarify or get additional context; none was given. After trying to answer the question many different ways (and them giving me no clarification on what they were obviously fishing for), he told me that I wasn’t technically strong enough for this role…
That’s it… no other questions to assess my skills or knowledge. I have been in the field over 5 years and it was honestly the worst interview I’ve ever experienced. In a technical interview you are meant to assess how a candidate solves problems, demonstrates abilities to ask questions, and provide many options to a problem. Not fish for a single answer and then conclude the interview before asking anything else.
Terrible experience. Likely won’t interview with them ever again.
