I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at TikTok (New York, NY) in Aug 2020
Interview
All interviews were heavily focused on TikTok, the industry and product sense. Recruiter gave me a bunch of other potential topics to prep but every interview came down to these three. So much so that the conversations started to get repetitive.
Be aware if you have to interview with teams in China. Was asked some things that are definitely inappropriate/illegal to ask in an interview. They've clearly ramped up the hiring process very quickly and have missed a few things. Interviewers aren't trained/calibrated and recruiters are not aligned with hiring team. I had extra rounds inserted, never knew who I was going to be speaking with next, and prep from the recruiter on what to expect in each round of interviews was never accurate.

Question 1
Why TikTok, what are some ideas you have for xyz area at TikTok, how would you improve the product
They arranged 3 rounds of interviews with all team members, not the hiring manager. I felt like it was not the typical process because one of them said they were changing the direction of this role.

Question 1
A really technical case and how to solve the pain point.
There are in total 4rounds including 2 rounds with senior peers and 1 round with +1 and round with HR, not that difficult. But I think the experience match is most important……..
4 interviews
- Recruiter screening
- HM interview
- Peer Interview
- Functional interview
Each round has around 45 minutes. Case and BQ are heavy, and the interviewers will leave 5-10 minutes for questions toward the end of the session
