I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Teach for America in Sep 2019
Interview
Long, tedious and questionable. I should have heeded the multitude of criticisms against TFA before wasting my time applying. Multiple red flags: they never contacted any of my references (heaven know what kinds of "teachers" they have in our kids' classrooms), they insisted on a virtual interview which is the most impersonal type of interview possible. Many reviews I read stated that TFA throws you to the wolves after their woefully inadequate "training", and seeing the application process myself, I can believe it. There was a definite sense of them trying to indoctrinate applicants from very early on, and I believe they are ideally looking for young minority candidates so that they can be easily manipulated into accepting undesirable assignments and salary, just to become a teacher. Also, the woman who conducted the virtual interview had admittedly never set foot in a classroom. I applied to another program and was accepted. I thank my lucky stars that I dodged a bullet with TFA.
The interview was relaxed and they were certainly there to help. They made it clear they would help you through the whole process of becoming a teacher with your own mentor guiding you.
easy and fun, lots of help through the process. Very helpful and kind, lots of responsiveness. everyone has a clear vision of the mission, and wants to achieve it. Loved it.
