      Corps Member Interview

      Apr 22, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lexington-Fayette, KY
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Teach for America (Lexington-Fayette, KY) in May 2018

      Interview

The interview process was overall pretty easy. The application took under 30 minutes to complete aside from the personal statement, which took maybe an hour to write (300 words or so). I heard back within about a week or two of the deadline that I had been selected for an interview. My interview was scheduled to last from 10 am to 3 or 4pm, but since my interview group was on the small side I was done by 1pm. The first part of the interview is done in a group and each interviewee gives a 5 minute micro-lesson. TFA has some very particular guidelines on it: must provide your name (Ex. Ms. Smith), the subject (Math), the grade level you're teaching to (3rd grade) and the name of the lesson, this information is more for the scores because they will act differently if you have teaching kindergarten as opposed to 12th grade. Everyone else in the group acts as students. Another weird thing TFA required was that if your lesson requires the students to have pens or pencils that you provide those, I did this but some of my companions did not. After everyone gives their micro-lesson, there is a group scenario. Mine had to do with a district facing budget cuts, and our group was told to select from one of two options to save money. They give you about 15 minutes to talk about in in a group. It doesn't matter which solution you chose, just that you have good reasoning for selecting it. I assume that they also score how well you interact with group members. After that, they gave us about 15-20 minutes to ask the TFA interviewers any questions about the company or the interview process. Then we decided what order our individual interviews would be in. Our group was only 5 people and there were two interviewers so we signed up for 3 time slots. Then if we were in the second or third group of interviewees we had the option to leave the building for lunch or whatever. I was the second interview slot so I went across the street for lunch. The individual interview lasts about an hour, mine was about 45 minutes and I think they have to cut you off at an hour. The interviewer took notes on her computer, and it seemed like there was a series of questions they asked you. The woman giving my interview was very nice, and she was helpful in asking clarifying questions to help bulk up my answers. They will ask you about the articles they assign you to read during this interview. I believe there was only one question about one article though.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Teach for America (Philadelphia, PA) in Dec 2024

      Interview

The interview was very different from most interviews but I was definitely well-prepared with the resources that TFA had offered in preparation. My interviewer was very nice and it often felt like a conversation between us about whatever question was asked which was nice.

      Interview

You had to complete a demo in front of other candidates as well as recruiters. The demo itself was short and you had flexibility in what you “taught” for your lesson.
