      Business Operations Specialist Interview

      Jan 19, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at TSMC

      Interview

Overall, all experiences were terrible. After the first round of HR interviews, I received an email saying that I was selected for a second round of interviews after that. However, I received another email a day later saying that I was rejected for the position. They tried to explain to me that they didn't have all the approvals from HM before sending me the email. I don’t understand. How can a big company like this have this problem? It's so bad, I would say this was the worst interview I've ever had. It totally shows how unprofessional this company is.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TSMC (San Jose, CA)

      Interview

There were scheduling miscommunications with HR on two separate occasions and they provided an outdated resume of mine from an earlier application to the team. I had to remedy this by sending the resume I used to apply for the role to the team DURING the interview. On the brighter side, no direct issues when interviewing with the team. The questions asked are standard and there seems to be a pattern of long term employees at the company. They did ask me to speak Mandarin Chinese in the interview because they work closely with their sister team in Taiwan. This also indicates a working schedule that's more aligned with GMT because of their work weeks (more relaxed Friday but more busy work on Sunday/Monday). They also mentioned that often times, they has to stay longer than the usual 8 hour work day because there are meetings with teams in Taiwan. This is pretty typical for international companies. Perhaps due to the role's focus, they didn't emphasize technical details about TSMC. When asked about my knowledge of TSMC, they seemed more interested in my overall impression of the company rather than technical specifics about FinFET, semiconductor manufacturing or their corporate partnerships. When asked about what values they prefer, the values are what most companies look for in beginner roles: team player, conversational, harmonious, accountability. integrity. Nothing specific other than: " easy to get along with" and " works hard". Overall the interview with the direct team is an average experience. No out of field questions, but no out of the box questions either. Would recommend checking in with HR often to confirm information and meeting times.
