I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Superhuman (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2019
Interview
1) Recruiter phone screen, 2) hiring manager phone screen, 3) half-day onsite, 4) homework assignment, 5) another half-day onsite + homework assignment presentation
Positives: Scheduling, follow-up, and overall coordination were done well. The interviews are very structured and focused, so candidates are likely being compared against a standard set of metrics which is good to see.
Negatives: Extremely time intensive. Not very welcoming or friendly; a sterile/mechanical vibe. But, by far the biggest negative is how Grammarly handles the homework assignment. They set off several red flags that they could be exploiting candidates for free labor and fresh ideas.
First, the assignment asks the candidate to work on a problem that Grammarly is currently trying to solve and that directly impacts the business. Wouldn't a hypothetical be more appropriate? Second, the scope of the assignment is unreasonable for an interview. Anything that requires more than 3 hours of work to do a good job is not cool. Third, they requested a copy of my work after I presented. Again, this is inappropriate. The candidate is not in a position to refuse and leaving a copy behind was never part of the process explained. It's possible nothing shady is happening here but these are hallmark signs and left me feeling very uneasy about what I invested.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What did you do during the summers between years in college?
What would your manager from position "x" say are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
What do you like about the product and what could be better?
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and we’re sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Our interview process is designed to ensure we find a great fit for both candidates and Grammarly, which takes time. That said, we do want to be mindful of people’s time and effort, and have shared this feedback with our team.
The recruiter was transparent, fair, and helpful. After reaching final rounds, they set up a zoom call to tell me that I did not get the role, rather than send an auto email. Highly recommend their team!

Question 1
Tell us about your experiences with product-led growth vs. sales-led growth.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Superhuman
Interview
I had a call with the recruiter, then a zoom call with the hiring manager. If I had moved forward, there would be a panel interview followed by an offer letter.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell us about your background and why the role interests you. Favorite campaign. How would your previous manager describe you? What KPIs did you report on?
The recruiter reached out to me and scheduled an interview. Then the recruiter did not show up for said scheduled interview, and did not respond to my subsequent follow-up emails. Unprofessional; disorganized; disrespectful.
