      User Experience Designer Interview

      May 20, 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Brno
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at SolarWinds (Brno) in Mar 2026

      Interview

      - I applied in January 2026 and the process concluded in April 2026, approximately 5 months in total. - At the outset I was told there would be 4 rounds. The process expanded to 6 rounds without prior communication or explanation. Additional rounds were added after each stage without transparency about when a decision would be made. - During the process the role location changed from Krakow to Brno, and mid-way through I was informed they were evaluating me for a Senior UX Designer position, a role I had not applied for and which carries different expectations. - The interview rounds with product team representatives were heavily focused on technical product knowledge and domain expertise rather than design thinking, process, or craft. The original job description did not mention technical domain knowledge as a requirement. As a designer, I expected to be evaluated on design principles, frameworks, and problem solving approach. - The candidate is expected to bear all relocation and visa costs independently, including immigration agency fees which were significant. There is no financial relocation support whatsoever. - A formal offer letter was issued and then rescinded within one hour, citing start date as the reason. The start date was a direct consequence of visa processing timelines, a legal requirement outside the candidate's control and was itself a consequence of how long the process took. Throughout the process communication was reactive rather than proactive. Changes to the role, location, and process were communicated only when the candidate asked directly. Advice to management: Be transparent about the full process from day one. If domain knowledge is a requirement, state it clearly in the job description. Do not issue offer letters before internal alignment is reached.
