I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at SolarCity in Jul 2013
Interview
Very strange and disjointed interview process. I don't think they know who they are. They presented themselves as an innovative technology company. The talk about Elon Musk alot and seem to see themselves as being a part of the tech industry. When you dig a little deeper though it is really a retail sales/construction company. They hire large numbers of door to door sales people and installers. Very low tech, pulling sales people from Sears etc. Why they try to attract tech recruiters and people with experience in the tech field is beyond me. Once I started asking questions about the role they got very defensive. Not a great experience at all.

Question 1
The questions were not difficult in any way. They seemed so eager to get help that I grew concerned about what I would be stepping into.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at SolarCity
Interview
I interviewed with SolarCity two years ago; at the time, the role I was interviewing for wasn't the right one for me, but the amazing experience I had put SolarCity at the top of my list of places I wanted to work! It has been the only place I have ever interviewed where everyone, regardless of their role, is on the same page with what the goal of the company is: Provide clean energy and do what we can to save the world!
When I saw a new role had become available, I reached out to one of the recruiters I had previously spoken to. She put me in contact with a recruiting hiring manager. I had three or four phone interviews over the course of two days and then was offered a position and started 10 days later.
SolarCity moves at a very quick pace! It's called the Solar Coaster for a reason!
