I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Smarkets (London, England) in Jul 2021
Interview
I applied online on LinkedIn for the London office position and got contacted by the recruiter within a few days. Next followed a short call with the recruiter. I was asked the usual questions, interests, motivation and stuff. The recruiter was super helpful in clarifying all my doubts and answering all my questions.
I was then given a hacker rank test link. The test was mostly LC medium and you can do it in your choice of language. I was immediately contacted by the recruiter next day to setup the onsite interview.
The onsite interview contained 2 back to back interviews of 1 hour each. Each started with a brief introduction about themselves, the team they are working in and the overall tech stack and business. I was asked about myself. After around 10-15 mins we started the coding in a shared coder pad of hacker rank. The interviewer was super helpful and super accommodating. He knew when to give hint, when to ask any clarifying question, when to engage and when to be left alone to think and explain what I was thinking to him.
The questions were LC hard and I was not that well prepared for them so struggled a bit. I did the initial solution but then failed to do the optimised versions, which was a DP.
Both the interviews had the same pattern.
Got reject next day but a nice feedback from the recruiter. Overall, I would say, the recruiter and the interviewers were super helpful and engaging and make every effort to make sure you have a great interview experience. Tells a lot about the culture and team working there I guess.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Given a mobile dial-pad and a starting point how many different combinations are there if hoping from one number to another is based like a knight's move in chess, given the number of hops allowed.

Interview
All very standard. Phone screen, codility, 2 in person interviews. Final interview was with CEO who has a bit of a reputation. Was screened for not being a good culture fit (whatever that means).

Question 1
What's the probability of getting at least 1 six from 10 rolls of 5 dice?

Interview
First was recruiter screening, just questions on your current situation and what you're looking for. The second stage was two leetcode style questions (1 easy & 1 easy/medium). The third stage was a backend-style question. The question itself was straightforward but you needed to get the optimal solution within the given time (without wasting time). I made a silly mistake early on (wasting time) but still got 14/15 test cases passed but wasn't good enough. Everyone was very friendly, communicative, quick to respond and most importantly gave feedback after the interviews.
