      User Experience Designer Interview

      Jan 3, 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Warsaw, Masovia
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Samsung Electronics (Warsaw, Masovia) in Dec 2013

      Interview

I was refered to the position of User Experience Designer. I've got information about 1:1 meeting from my friend in Monday, in Tuesday the lady from HR called to me and tried to make a meeting at Friday. They were flexible so I moved it to Monday. In the building I've spent almost 15 minutes ringing to the door because reception was to busy with chrismtas gifts for employees. Then I was pointed to the meeting room. The Interviewers were more than 20 minutes late so I've spent overally 40 minutes closed in the meeting room alo Interviewers team consist of two men: mid 40 and mid 20. They asked me about my work background and what UX is. They was very dissapointed that I cannot show my current project (it's forbidden by my contract). I was waiting for the task to present my skills and my work way. Unfortunatelly the only one was to trying to invent a game for children which is innovative, educational and requires smart TV and smartphone. At the end they informed me that they are looking for someone just for a year as a replacement for pregnant designer. Of course there was no infomation on their webpage that they are looking only for temporaty employee and Samsung HR didn't know anything about that. At the very end they asked me about my financial expectation. Srsly? I need to share that with people that I could work with? This part took me approx. 1 hour. Second part was a meeting with HR representative and it took me approx. 20 minutes. The lady checked my language skills, asked again about financial expectations. I've asked about relocation package - it's poor. They would add 100 euros to your salary from 4th to 16th month of your employment.

      User Experience Designer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Samsung Electronics (Vancouver, BC)

      Interview

I would like to share my experience of the interview process at Samsung, Vancouver headquarters office. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this interview process consisting a series of bad to ugly events: (1.) The recruiter was a 3rd party contractor, whom scheduled me months AFTER our first email thread. I was then scheduled for a video call interview with the hiring manager. (2.) During the scheduled video call interview, the hiring manager ended up being a no show with no notice (3.) I emailed the recruiter, after some confusion, we rescheduled. (4.) We finally did the interview with the hiring manager. He admitted he overlooked this interview (even though it's been scheduled weeks beforehand). This hiring manager stated that he has no actual UX experience and is looking for a full-stack designer that can do it all... Yet they are currently leading a team full of UX designers. (5.) The agenda was set up where the hiring manger would have a list of questions to ask and I could ask my questions at the end. I'm disappointed to say the questions asked were formulated in a condescending and judgemental tone: • Which university did you attend? • What degree did you graduate with? • Why was your position at XYZ so short? • Can you tell me a time when you didn't get along with someone? • From what I can see, it seems like your experience aren't as relevant for this role? (6.) With 5 minutes left of our interview, he finally gave me a chance to ask one question. His answer took the entire 5 minutes in a ramble and didn't answer my question, I had to follow up to clarify what his answer actually meant. It was a mess. Despite the rough start, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. We ended up talking about next steps and how I will meet the rest of the team. (7.) I wait 2 weeks, no news. I followed up with an email to see where we are at. Both the recruiter and hiring manager ended up ghosting me. There was no reply or acknowledgement if they are proceeding with someone else or if the role had been filled. (8.) They ended up reposting the role again in social media and job boards.
